Review of Rozsa Op. 31 Piano Concerto

Poster: Reviews from 1968 - 1970

The Concerto
"The Concerto composed for, and dedicated to, Mr. Pennario, received its world premiere in April 1967 with the artist at the keyboard and with Zubin Mehta conducting the Los Angeles Philharmonic. That great success was followed with equal successes when he repeated the concerto with the Houston Symphony Orchestra, Andre Previn conducting, and with the Honolulu Symphony with the composer conducting. He also performed it with the San Diego Symphony, and when the Hague Philharmonic toured America in 1969, Mr. Pennario again played the work in Toledo and in Carnegie Hall, New York under the baton of Willem van Otterloo.

"His present repertory is quite possibly the largest of any pianist of today — more than forty concertos on his active list and all the works which he has performed with most of the leading conductors and major orchestras at home and abroad — throughout Europe, wiht all eight of Great Britain's orchestras, in Australia and New Zealand. Since 1968 through season 1970-71, Mr. Pennario performed with no less than thirty American orchestras!
